About this event

What to expect

Girls and non-binary young people aged 10-17 in Edinburgh can explore the foundations of AI and machine learning in this hands-on workshop at CodeBase Edinburgh. Using Teachable Machine, a web-based tool that makes artificial intelligence accessible and easy to use, participants will create their own playful machine learning models by capturing video and images in real time.

What You'll Learn

This energetic, hands-on session provides a firsthand introduction to how data shapes technology. Working individually or in groups, participants will train machine learning models with total creative freedom — whether that means distinguishing between dance moves, interpreting sign language, recognizing specific poses, or any other creative application they imagine. By experimenting with training data, attendees will see their ideas come to life through working AI models and gain practical understanding of how machines learn from the information we provide them.

Who Should Attend

Digital Skills 4 Girls is designed specifically for girls and non-binary young people aged 10-17 who want to learn new digital skills or develop existing ones. Whether you're completely new to coding and AI or already have some experience, this friendly and supportive environment welcomes all skill levels. The workshop runs concurrently with Prewired, a coding club for under-19s, creating a vibrant community atmosphere.
