Build an AI prototype for better UK insurance research at this one-day hackathon in Cardiff on 20 October 2026. Consumers increasingly ask tools such as ChatGPT about insurance before approaching a broker, insurer or comparison site. Those answers can sound convincing while being outdated, based on the US market or shaped by a poorly framed prompt. Hosted by AI Wales, this practical hackathon invites participants to explore how AI could provide more accurate, useful and trustworthy insurance information. The challenge Based on findings from the Future Finance Research Sprint, teams can tackle one or more of three core problems: - Answer quality often depends on how a consumer prompts the LLM. - LLMs may lack current, accurate and UK-specific insurance information. - Consumers can arrive at insurers and comparison sites with assumptions already shaped by AI. Your concept might help people ask better questions, assess the answers they receive, identify gaps in their understanding or make a more effective handover to a broker, insurer or comparison service. Solutions should work with AI tools people already use, protect consumer privacy and avoid crossing into regulated financial advice. Participants can review the full challenge brief before the event. What you’ll build The goal is either a working prototype or a strong concept with the potential to make a real difference for consumers. Attendees can use Lovable to turn an idea into an app, with 100 free credits supplied to every participant, including solo entrants. Sign-up details for the credits will be shared on the day. No development or insurance expertise is required. The event is designed for mixed teams of developers, designers, product professionals, insurance and finance specialists, students and anyone curious about AI. Enter alone, bring a team of up to four or find collaborators at the venue. View the event and registration details

Build a Personal AI DNA file in this 45-minute online workshop and make ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or Gemini produce writing that sounds like you. Hosted by Emery Layton for AI Strategy Lab – Manchester, this practical session takes place on Thursday 22 October 2026. It tackles a familiar problem for business owners and independent professionals: AI can produce polished copy, but the result often feels generic, anonymous and time-consuming to edit. Rather than treating this as a prompting failure, Emery frames it as an onboarding problem. During the workshop, you will create a Personal AI DNA file: a single page of plain text that gives an AI essential context about who you are, who you serve, how you communicate and what you would never say. What you’ll cover The session combines accessible AI strategy with a live, hands-on build. Topics include: - What AI is in plain language, and what it cannot do - Three current news developments that matter to business owners - Where AI tools are heading and what remains constant as they change - Why AI-generated writing often feels generic - The six components of a Personal AI DNA file, illustrated with examples - A four-minute method for capturing your writing voice - A live build in which Emery writes his file while you create yours - A side-by-side test using the same request with and without your DNA file You can use a free account for ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or Gemini. No paid plan or specialist software is required; a laptop and a basic notepad are enough. Who it’s for This workshop is designed for business owners, coaches, consultants and freelancers who write frequently and want to reduce the time spent rewriting generic AI output. Complete beginners are welcome, while regular AI users should find particular value in the build and testing portion. Emery Layton is a licensed Professional Engineer with 25 years of experience in water and wastewater infrastructure. Working in a field where errors carry real liability shaped his approach to AI: accuracy, consistency and reliability take priority over novelty or showmanship.
