What to expect

NewTechKids brings its acclaimed summer bootcamp program to Amsterdam for a five-day intensive learning experience that merges robotics, nature-inspired design, and hands-on coding. Running daily from July 27-31, 2026, this bilingual bootcamp invites children aged 8-12 to explore the fascinating world of biomimicry — teaching robots to imitate the movements and behaviors of plants and animals.

What Kids Will Build and Learn

Working in pairs with LEGO robotics kits and creative art supplies, young makers will tackle an exciting challenge: can they transform their favorite animal into a functioning robot? Can a robotic plant seek out light and water like its living counterpart? Through this hands-on exploration, children will naturally absorb fundamental computer science concepts including algorithms, commands, loops, sequences, iteration, and if-else logic — all while bringing their imaginative designs to life.

The bootcamp emphasizes design thinking alongside technical skills. Participants will learn about:

  • Resource management and project requirements
  • Testing and iteration processes
  • Best practices in robotics design
  • Coding fundamentals through practical application
  • Presentation and communication skills

Each day concludes with students presenting their creations to peers and parents, building confidence and public speaking abilities. Successful participants receive an official NewTechKids diploma recognizing their achievements.

Perfect for Beginners and Returners

This program welcomes complete beginners with no prior coding or robotics experience, as well as children who have participated in previous NewTechKids programs. Girls are especially encouraged to join this inclusive, supportive learning environment. The curriculum adapts to different skill levels while maintaining engagement for all participants.

Expert Instruction in a World-Class Venue

Classes take place from 10:00-14:00 daily at the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam's Junior Lab in the basement — just a five-minute walk from Centraal Station. The camp is led by a professional, native Dutch-speaking teacher with specialized computer science training, using NewTechKids' proven pedagogy that emphasizes concept-context learning and tangible tools.

Instruction is bilingual (Dutch and English), making it accessible to both local Amsterdam children and international visitors. A morning snack and drink are provided; children shoul
