About this event

What to expect

AI for Education The Netherlands 2026 brings researchers, educators and policymakers to Amsterdam to turn AI research into responsible classroom practice.

Hosted by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam on 29–30 October 2026, this two-day conference examines how evidence, emerging technology and educational practice can better inform one another. Its central theme,“Research meets Practice: Bridging the Gap between Research and Classroom Implementation”,sets the stage for interdisciplinary discussion across academic, professional and policy boundaries.

Conference tracks

The programme is organised around four complementary areas:

  • Teacher Professional Development & AI Literacy , frameworks and tools that can help educators develop practical AI literacy in pre-service and in-service settings.
  • Field Reports: Narratives of Adoption and Practice , candid accounts of classroom adoption, including real-world challenges, lessons and successes.
  • Ethics, Policy and Responsible Implementation , the ethical, legal and societal implications of educational AI, with a focus on translating principles into usable guidance for schools.
  • Future Horizons: Emerging Technologies in Education , research and high-potential technologies looking towards 2030 and beyond, including VR, AR and neuro-education.

Keynotes and perspectives

Keynote presentations will come from Dr Simon See, Global Head of the NVIDIA AI Technology Centre; Professor Eleni Mangina of University College Dublin; Professor Bert Bredeweg of Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences; Dr Y. Cai of Nanyang Technological University; and Dr Ingrid Winkler, Head of the Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality for Industrial Innovation Lab at SENAI University.

Together, the tracks and keynote programme make this relevant to researchers, classroom practitioners, teacher educators, institutional leaders and policymakers seeking a grounded view of AI in education. Rather than treating educational AI purely as a technical topic, the conference connects implementation experience with research, governance, professional development and future-facing innovation.
