Belfast · Enso Recruitment
Hosted by OWASP Belfast Chapter
Explore how to start and sustain a cybersecurity career at this free OWASP Belfast discussion on 12 November 2026 at Enso Recruitment in Belfast. Rather than a series of presentations or a traditional panel, the event will use an open, interview-style conversation to compare career expectations with the realities of working in cybersecurity. Three participants at different stages will share their perspectives: a student planning their first steps, a penetration tester who has moved into the industry, and an experienced security engineer with a background spanning engineering, education and the cybersecurity community. Topics will include: - Where to begin in a broad and sometimes overwhelming field - Degrees, certifications, labs and practical experience - Securing a first cybersecurity role - What employers seek in junior candidates - The day-to-day reality of penetration testing and security engineering - When, or whether, to choose a specialism - How AI may reshape entry-level cybersecurity careers - Building a durable career and learning through communities such as OWASP and BSides The student will also challenge the professionals on whether common career advice works in practice. Audience questions and discussion are encouraged, making this suitable for students, career changers, current practitioners and anyone curious about cybersecurity career development. Everyone is welcome. Time and place: Thursday 12 November 2026 at 5:00pm GMT, Enso Recruitment, Dax House, 22 Howard Street, Belfast BT1 6PA. Register for the OWASP Belfast event.
