Front End Sheffield brings web designers and developers together at Sheffield Hallam University for two focused talks spanning agent experience, front-end architecture and the changing relationship between standards and frameworks. Held in Room 942 of the Owen Building in Sheffield, the evening combines practical ideas, technical discussion, an open mic and time to meet other members of the local web community. Two perspectives on modern development Richard Oliver Bray, “Agent Experience: Building apps agents want to use” Richard will share the AI tools and coding techniques that work for him, with a particular focus on Claude Code. The talk will condense his experience into an account of how developers can approach building applications that work effectively with agents. It should be especially relevant to anyone exploring AI-assisted coding or thinking beyond conventional user experience towards the needs of software agents. Hayleigh Thompson, “Web Components can work for frameworks too” Hayleigh will examine the long-running tension between Web Components and frameworks. Framework authors have argued that Web Components offer a poor abstraction on which to build, while advocates of the web platform emphasise interoperability and reduced framework dependency. This talk asks whether Web Components could become a strong framework foundation if the industry reconsidered what a “component” means, and whether developers need components as often as they think.
