About this event

What to expect

Looking to level up your AI development skills with hands-on workshops and expert guidance? GDG Melbourne is hosting a practical Build with AI evening that goes beyond theory—you'll build real systems using Gemini and Google Cloud tools. This in-person event brings together developers, cloud enthusiasts, and AI practitioners at all levels for an intensive workshop session featuring two experienced Google Developer Experts.

What You'll Build

The evening features two distinct hands-on workshops designed to tackle real-world challenges:

Building a Multi-Agent System with Patrick Haralabidis, a Google Developer Expert in AI and Machine Learning who leads the ML and Software Engineering Chapter at Flybuys. You'll move beyond simple chatbots to create distributed multi-agent systems where specialized AI agents coordinate to solve complex problems—just as engineering teams divide responsibilities among specialists. This workshop demonstrates how to architect systems where agents focus on specific tasks and collaborate effectively.

The Self-Curation Engine with Anupam Phogat from Core-X, exploring how to automate data engineering's most tedious tasks. You'll build a serverless Cloud Run agent that uses the Gemini API to automatically handle schema mapping when data arrives from disparate sources. The agent compares raw schemas to BigQuery targets and dynamically generates the required SQL or Dataform transformations—eliminating manual schema maintenance.

Who Should Attend

This event welcomes seasoned developers looking to implement multi-agent architectures, cloud practitioners wanting to leverage AI for automation, data engineers struggling with schema inconsistencies, and anyone interested in practical AI applications beyond basic chatbots. The workshops are hands-on and require you to bring a laptop (preferably fully charged). Check the workshop descriptions and prerequisites in advance to prepare.
