About this event

What to expect

Connect with game developers and enthusiasts at this relaxed social meetup in Southampton, designed for anyone involved in — or curious about — making video games. Whether you're a student exploring the industry, a hobbyist working on your first project, an indie developer, or an industry veteran, this is an informal space to meet local creators, share experiences, and talk about games without the pressure of pitching or presenting.

Hosted by Antivenin Games and Solent Video Game Developers (SVGD), this five-hour gathering runs from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brewhouse & Kitchen on Highfield Lane. The event takes a deliberately low-key approach — no scheduled talks, no formal presentations, no awkward icebreakers. Just good conversation, shared enthusiasm for game development, and the kind of atmosphere where arriving solo is completely normal (and you'll find yourself in conversation within minutes).

Who Should Attend

This meetup welcomes game developers at every stage and from every discipline:

  • Programmers, artists, designers, writers, and producers working in games
  • Students and graduates exploring career paths in game development
  • Hobbyists experimenting with game creation in their spare time
  • Industry professionals looking to connect with the local scene
  • Anyone curious about how games are made

You don't need a finished project, portfolio, or pitch. The focus is on community building and genuine connection rather than showcasing work or networking in the transactional sense.

What to Expect

This is a social gathering structured around conversation and community rather than content delivery. Expect to chat about current projects, swap stories about development challenges, discuss favourite games and tools, and meet people working across different aspects of game creation. The informal format means you can engage as much or as little as feels comfortable — stay for an hour or the full five hours, talk shop or just listen, connect one-on-one or join group conversations.

The venue, Brewhouse & Kitchen, offers a full food and drinks menu throughout the afternoon and evening, available for purchase directly. The relaxed pub atmosphere supports both energetic group discussions and quieter side conversations.
