Hosted by Centre for Machine Intelligence, University of Southampton

Build a machine learning project with Darwin AutoML at this two-week University of Southampton student hackathon, running 6–20 November 2026. Organised by the Centre for Machine Intelligence in collaboration with SparkCognition, this competition offers a practical introduction to AI while developing your teamwork, entrepreneurial thinking and presentation skills. It is open to University of Southampton students from all academic backgrounds. No previous machine learning experience is required, although basic coding skills and an understanding of statistics will help. How the hackathon works The programme begins with an in-person kickoff from 6pm to 9pm on 6 November in 46/3001, Southampton. Food and drinks will be provided. The opening session covers: - A “Machine Learning 101” primer, including what the technology can and cannot do - How to use SparkCognition’s Darwin Automated Machine Learning platform - What makes a strong problem and dataset You will then work in a team of four or five until 16 November, applying machine learning to a problem of your choice. Teams may source an open dataset and pursue their own idea or use one of the supplied challenge datasets. Example problems include predicting customer churn, forecasting power generation from environmental conditions, analysing company engagement and predicting American football results. Python and the Darwin SDK may be useful for datasets requiring additional preparation or time-series work. Darwin is designed to help “citizen data scientists” wrangle and explore numerical data, search for suitable models, and evaluate regression, classification and prediction results. SparkCognition will also provide technical support with problem selection and the platform. Darwin video tutorials and sample datasets are available. Reports, finals and prizes… Register for this event

A hybrid University of Southampton workshop examining how AI and automation are reshaping work, worker wellbeing and the meaning of working life. Work, automation and ethics Taking place on Tuesday 15 December 2026 at the University of Southampton’s Avenue Campus, with an option to attend online, this workshop approaches workplace AI as an ethical and social challenge, not simply a technical development. It will consider what happens as AI takes over tasks, optimises workflows and changes the relationship between workers, employers and the wider economy. The programme centres on difficult questions raised by increasingly automated workplaces: - Are there distinctive harms or “bads” associated with automated working environments? - How should people live in a world where AI can replace most, or potentially all, tasks? - Could AI make work less meaningful? - What do changing workflows mean for workers and the economy? Rather than focusing on a particular software platform, the workshop creates space for philosophical examination of automation’s consequences. It should be particularly relevant to researchers, students and practitioners interested in the ethics of AI, the philosophy of work, technology’s impact on workers, and the future organisation of economic life. No specific experience level or technical prerequisite is listed. Speakers and format The workshop brings together speakers from universities in the UK, Ireland and Germany: - Markus Rüther, University of Juelich / University of Bonn - Charlotte Unruh, University of Southampton - John Danaher, University of Galway - Rosalie Waelen, Goethe University Frankfurt The hybrid format allows participants to attend either in person in Southampton or remotely. Organised by Charlotte Franziska Unruh, the event offers an academically grounded setting in which to examine not only what workplace AI can do, but how its use may affect human agency, meaningful activity and working conditions. Registration Registration is required. Attendees must email the organiser by Tuesday 8 December 2026, clearly stating whether they plan to participate in person or online. The event listing gives a registration deadline of 9:00am; RSVPing through PhilEvents alone is not sufficient to register. View the event and registration details

Hosted by University of Notre Dame / Universidad de los Andes

RISE AI Latin America Summit brings academia, industry and government to Santiago on 20–21 October 2026 to advance responsible AI across the region. Co-created by Universidad de los Andes and the University of Notre Dame, in partnership with institutions across Latin America, this two-day conference focuses on a defining question: how should AI be built, governed and shared so that it serves communities and the common good? It offers a regional forum for perspectives that can influence both Latin American priorities and the wider global conversation. The RISE AI framework The programme is organised around four connected principles: - Responsible: establishing accountability throughout the AI lifecycle, from data and model training to deployment and use, while aligning systems with human values and community needs. - Inclusive: reflecting different communities, languages, cultures, disciplines and lived experiences, and giving people affected by AI meaningful opportunities to shape it. - Safe: creating reliable, secure and robust systems that actively reduce harm, prevent misuse and address unintended consequences. - Empowering: using AI to expand human capability, strengthen communities, improve access to opportunity and augment rather than diminish human agency. These principles provide a practical basis for discussing innovation, governance and institutional change in a region where questions of access, sustainability and development are already urgent realities. Themes and perspectives The summit will convene contributors from universities, companies and public institutions across three highlighted tracks: - Education: skills development and institutional transformation - Health & Biotech: innovation spanning health and engineering - Business: AI adoption and governance models The wider context includes Latin America’s research capabilities, entrepreneurial momentum and public-sector demand. Attendees can expect a cross-sector conversation that connects technical progress with accountability, social impact and the realities of implementation. The event page also includes a call for abstracts, creating an avenue for relevant work to contribute to the summit discussion. Who should attend?… Register for this event

Explore sustainable AI factories, sovereign European infrastructure and energy-efficient compute with Polarise at GTC Berlin, 20–22 October 2026. Polarise will exhibit at GTC Berlin 2026 in Berlin, presenting its approach to building the infrastructure behind responsible, high-performance AI services. Running from 20 to 22 October 2026, the event offers an opportunity to meet the Polarise team and discuss how sustainable digital infrastructure can support ambitious AI projects without losing sight of data sovereignty or environmental responsibility. What Polarise will showcase The company’s presence will centre on AI Factories backed by a first generation of sustainable digital infrastructure. Visitors can explore four connected areas: - AI Factories and the infrastructure required to deliver modern AI services - European AI sovereignty solutions - Green AI compute optimisation - More energy-efficient approaches to running AI workloads Together, these themes address a practical challenge for organisations adopting AI at scale: how to secure the computing capacity they need while retaining control over data and reducing the environmental impact of intensive workloads. Polarise positions its infrastructure as a foundation for responsible AI development, combining technical capability with European sovereignty and sustainability priorities. Who should visit the booth? Polarise’s exhibition will be particularly relevant to organisations evaluating AI infrastructure, teams delivering AI-powered services, and potential partners interested in sovereign or energy-conscious compute. It should also appeal to decision-makers exploring how infrastructure choices affect performance, data governance and environmental goals. The format is centred on the exhibition booth and pre-arranged conversations rather than a published talk or workshop programme. Attendees can schedule dedicated time with the Polarise team to explore partnership opportunities and discuss how its infrastructure could support the delivery of cutting-edge AI services. The booth number has not yet been announced. For a focused conversation during the event, book a meetup with the Polarise team at the booth.… Register for this event
