About this event

What to expect

Sheffield AI returns to Hideaway this July for an evening exploring the evolving relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. This quarterly meetup brings together engineers, founders, students, and anyone curious about AI to hear from two thought-provoking speakers tackling different aspects of how we build with and relate to intelligent systems.

What to Expect

The evening features two distinct talks exploring human-machine interaction and practical AI implementation at scale. Jeff Watkins, AI consultant, author, and host of the Compromising Positions podcast, will examine what it means to build our lives around AI systems. His talk, "Symbiotic Futures: The Human-Machine Love Affair and the Evolution of Experience," explores what healthy human-machine relationships might actually look like as we become increasingly intertwined with AI in our work, thinking, and daily routines.

Tyler Langan from Spotify will share insights into how one of the world's leading streaming platforms uses AI to detect and prevent fake streams — a fascinating look at AI protecting platform integrity at massive scale.

Who Should Attend

This event welcomes everyone from experienced AI engineers and founders to students just beginning their journey and curious minds exploring what AI means for our future. Whether you're building AI systems, thinking critically about their implications, or simply want to understand where this technology is heading, you'll find value in these conversations. The Sheffield AI community is deliberately inclusive, fostering dialogue across experience levels and backgrounds.

Event Format

Doors open at 6:00 PM, giving you time to grab a drink and connect with fellow attendees before the talks begin at 6:30 PM. A break between speakers provides opportunity for reflection and conversation before the second talk at 7:15 PM. The formal programme concludes around 8:00 PM, followed by networking and social time. All talks are recorded and posted to YouTube afterwards, though the in-person experience and networking opportunities are what make these quarterly gatherings special.

Held at Hideaway on Eyre Lane, the venue provides an intimate setting for thoughtful discussion about AI's role in shaping our technological and human future. Sheffield AI maintains a code of conduct ensuring a welcoming environment for all partici
