What to expect

IE&T Hackathon brings 200+ high school students to Santiago on 26–27 September 2026 to turn ambitious ideas into working demos.

Build something real in one weekend

Organised by IE&T Chile, this two-day student hackathon is the next edition of Nido Hack. It is designed as a weekend of hands-on creation rather than a class: participants form teams, choose a problem, develop an idea and ship a demo with support from mentors, judges and practical workshops.

Students can explore several kinds of projects:

  • Software and AI tools
  • Hardware ideas
  • Business concepts
  • Social-impact solutions

Challenges will span AI for good, student life, climate and sustainability, health and wellbeing, business and entrepreneurship, plus an open track for ideas that do not fit neatly into a category.

Who should take part?

The hackathon is for high school students from schools across the network. No coding or previous hackathon experience is required: initiative and a willingness to build are what matter. Students may apply alone and find collaborators on site, or register with a team of up to four people. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop, charger and an idea if they have one.

The event builds on Nido Hack 2025, where 40 students created 11 projects and four internship prizes were awarded. The 2026 edition aims to expand that model across multiple schools and welcome more than 200 students.

Format and judging

The proposed Saturday schedule begins with check-in and breakfast, followed by an opening talk covering the theme, rules and tracks. Team formation leads into the main build period, when mentors will work directly with teams. Workshops on AI, prototyping and pitching are planned, followed by an evening progress review. Detailed timings and venue logistics remain subject to confirmation, but the event dates are final.

Final projects will be assessed on:

  • Understanding of the problem
  • Creativity and potential impact
  • Feasibility and technical execution
  • Clarity of the presentation

This combination of making, mentoring, workshops and judging gives students an opportunity to practise teamwork, product thinking and pitching while producing something tangible. The organisers aim to make participation free with sponsor support; confirmed cost and logistics will be published once settled.…
