About this event

What to expect

Get young coders excited about Easter with a hands-on robotics adventure at Oxford Westgate Library. This free drop-in event combines festive fun with practical coding experience, designed specifically for children aged 7-11 who are curious about technology and eager to try their hand at programming.

What to Expect

Children will work with INDI robots — friendly, educational robots designed for young learners — to complete an Easter-themed coding challenge. By writing simple programs, participants will guide their robots through the library space to discover hidden Easter eggs. This interactive format transforms coding from an abstract concept into a tangible, rewarding experience where children can immediately see the results of their programming efforts.

The session introduces fundamental coding concepts through play, including:

  • Sequential commands and basic programming logic
  • Spatial reasoning and directional navigation
  • Problem-solving as children debug their code to reach the eggs
  • Cause-and-effect relationships in technology

Who Should Attend

This event is perfect for children aged 7-11 with any level of coding experience — from complete beginners to those who have experimented with programming before. Whether your child is a seasoned coder or has never written a line of code, they'll find the right level of challenge and support. Parents and guardians must accompany children throughout the session.

Event Format

As a free drop-in event, families can arrive any time during the one-hour window (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) and participate at their own pace. The informal structure means no registration pressure and flexibility to stay as long as your child is engaged. Library staff will be on hand to provide guidance and ensure everyone can participate successfully.

Why This Matters

Events like this provide crucial early exposure to coding and robotics in a low-pressure, creative environment. By connecting programming with a familiar celebration like Easter, children discover that technology can be fun, accessible, and rewarding — building confidence and curiosity that may spark a lifelong interest in STEM fields.

Located at Oxford Westgate Library on Queen Street, the venue is easily accessible by public transport, walking, or cycling. The library setting provides a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere perfect for family learning.
