What to expect

Learn how to create clearer product roadmaps and build trustworthy AI systems at this ProductTank Oxford meetup on 23 September 2026 in central Oxford.

Held at the King’s Arms, 40 Holywell Street, this free, informal evening brings the local product community together for two practical talks, discussion and networking over drinks. The programme connects two challenges facing modern product teams: communicating direction without turning a roadmap into a dull delivery plan, and introducing AI without surrendering control.

Two practical product talks

Phil Hornby , Going beyond the “Now-Next-Later” Roadmap

Now-Next-Later can help teams escape unhelpful roadmapping habits, but it is only a starting point. Phil will explain how strong roadmaps communicate goals, priorities and optionality while capturing direction, discovery and delivery in a format that remains easy to understand. Attendees will explore 14 visual roadmap styles designed to suit different messages and audiences.

Phil is a product leader, coach and technologist with more than 20 years of experience spanning product management, development, operations, project management, sales and marketing. He has worked across SaaS, IoT and automotive environments, helping product leaders make clearer decisions and deliver high-impact outcomes.

Claire Woodcock , Nobody Should Trust Your AI: How to build systems people can rely on

Claire will draw on real, high-stakes AI products to examine why hallucinations are only the most visible form of failure. She will cover how evaluations can provide false reassurance when they test the wrong things, alongside practical ways to create safeguards, monitoring and recovery paths. The focus is on adding AI while retaining oversight, not simply asking customers or teams to trust it.

Claire has led AI products at Climate X, Mozilla, Twitter, Onfido and Babylon Health across climate risk, recommendations, biometrics and healthcare. She also holds a postgraduate qualification from the Oxford Internet Institute and has published research on AI explanations and trust. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own stories from working with AI systems.
