⌖ Nottingham · Fothergill House

Hosted by DevOps Notts

Explore architecture governance for AI coding agents at Fothergill House in Nottingham on 27 October 2026, from 6–8pm GMT. This DevOps Notts talk presents a financial-services approach to moving governance earlier in the software development process. Rather than relying solely on architecture review boards, deployment failures and late-stage guardrails, the session will show how governance can become part of an AI agent’s reasoning. You’ll learn how an agent can read real policy documents, explain applicable requirements in plain English while a developer is still describing a system, and identify constraints before any Terraform is created. The talk also covers mirroring those policies in OPA/Rego rules, allowing the agent to check its own proposed design before presenting it and enabling CI to verify changes made by hand. The event is particularly relevant to DevOps practitioners, software engineers, architects and teams working with AI-assisted development in regulated environments. No speaker biography or experience-level requirement has been published. Agenda - 18:00: Doors open - 18:30: Talk begins - 19:15: Pizza and catch-up - 20:00: Doors close Hosted by Mica B. for DevOps Notts at CGI Fothergill House, 16 King Street, Nottingham NG1 2AS. ⌖ Nottingham · Foxhall The Poynt

Hosted by Databricks Nottingham Meetup

Learn how a regulated lender governs and broadens access to data on Databricks at this first in-person community meetup in Nottingham. The inaugural Databricks Nottingham Meetup takes place on Thursday 26 November 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm GMT, at Foxhall The Poynt, 45 Wollaton Street, Nottingham. Expect practical data and AI insights, conversation with local Databricks users, and a break for pizza and refreshments. Governing Data on Databricks Ed Ball, Head of Data, Security & Service Management at Oakbrook Finance, will explain how the regulated lender uses Unity Catalog and attribute-based access controls (ABAC) to apply governance policies consistently without unnecessarily slowing teams down. He will also show how that foundation enables more people to access data through Genie, sharing candid lessons about what worked and what did not. Ed has a background in software, data and security leadership, has served as a Data Protection Officer in financial services since 2018, and holds CIPP/E and CIPM certifications from the IAPP. A second talk is still to be announced. The evening welcomes all experience levels, including people working across data, engineering, business and governance. Places are limited. The meetup is sponsored by DATAPAO, with The Poynt hosting. RSVP for the event

⌖ Nottingham · Beeston Library

Hosted by Venanzio

Discuss Cory Doctorow’s critique of AI, labour and power at Beeston Library in Nottingham on 28 November 2026. Hosted by Venanzio for the Nottingham Humanist Book Club, this 90-minute meeting explores The Reverse Centaur’s Guide to Life After AI by journalist and bestselling author Cory Doctorow. Rather than asking only what artificial intelligence can do, the book challenges readers to consider a more revealing question: who is the technology working for, and who is being made to work for it? AI through the lens of labour The discussion will unpack Doctorow’s distinction between a “centaur” and a “reverse centaur”. In automation theory, a centaur is someone who chooses to use technology to support work that matters to them. A reverse centaur, by contrast, is forced to assist a machine and keep pace with its demands. Examples raised by the book include: - Drivers pushed to make deliveries continuously - Warehouse workers denied reasonable food or bathroom breaks - Programmers expected to produce impossible quantities of code - People whose working conditions are dictated by automated systems This framing creates space for a wider conversation about AI hype, automation, worker agency and the distribution of technological power. Whether you want to criticise AI, use it or reject it, the meeting will focus on looking beyond abstract claims about capability to examine its effects on real lives and society. A welcoming humanist book discussion The event takes place from 2:00pm to 3:30pm GMT on Saturday 28 November 2026, in Room Bee 3 at Beeston Library, Foster Avenue, Beeston, NG9 1AE. You do not need to have read the book. The session is designed as an accessible book-club conversation for anyone interested in AI and society, AI ethics, humanism or the changing nature of work. Readers can bring their interpretation of Doctorow’s argument, while newcomers can participate through their interest in the subject and in humanist values. View the event and registration details
