About this event

What to expect

Join Codebar Norwich for a free monthly coding workshop at Artlist, dedicated to making tech more diverse and welcoming. This evening session brings together learners and experienced developers in a supportive environment where you can code at your own pace, ask questions without judgment, and connect with others on a similar journey.

Who This Workshop Is For

This workshop is specifically designed to be inclusive and welcoming for women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people from underrepresented ethnic groups in tech. Whether you're taking your first steps in coding or you've started learning but feel stuck, this is your space to grow. No prior experience is required — just bring yourself, a laptop, and your curiosity.

What You'll Learn

The beauty of Codebar workshops is that you learn whatever you want to learn. Common topics include:

  • Javascript — build interactive web applications
  • HTML & CSS — create and style web pages
  • Python — explore programming fundamentals and data science
  • WordPress — understand content management systems
  • GitHub — learn version control and collaboration
  • Personal projects — get unstuck on whatever you're building

If you're not sure where to start, the organisers will chat with you and recommend a great starting point based on your interests and goals.

How the Evening Flows

6:00pm - Pizza, Networking & Settling In
Arrive, grab some pizza and refreshments (Norwich has great pizza!), and meet fellow learners and coaches. This relaxed half-hour gives you time to decompress after your day and connect with the community.

6:25pm - Pairing & Coding
Learners are paired with volunteer coaches — local developers who give their time to support others. Once everyone's paired up, the coding begins. Your coach will work with you one-on-one, guiding you through concepts, answering questions, and helping you build real skills.

8:00pm - Workshop Ends
You'll leave with new knowledge, practical coding experience, and the momentum to continue learning before the next month's session.

Why Attend?

  • You want to start coding but don't know where to begin
  • You've started learning but feel inconsistent or stuck
  • You learn better with supported coaching rather than solo tutorials
  • You'd like to meet others on a similar journey in a conducive environment
  • You want to be part of a welcoming, inclusive tech community
