About this event

What to expect

Discover the architectural decisions that separate fragile prototypes from resilient, production-ready services in this comprehensive two-part session with veteran software engineer Paul Grenyer. While many developers focus exclusively on implementing business logic, the real determinant of a service's long-term success lies in the often-overlooked infrastructure and design choices that surround that core functionality.

What You'll Learn

This session moves beyond domain modeling and algorithms to explore the critical non-domain considerations that ensure services remain maintainable, observable, and scalable over time. Paul will unpack the invisible scaffolding that shapes how services behave, communicate, and recover when things inevitably go wrong — the decisions that separate smooth operations from painful refactors months down the line.

Key Topics Include:

  • Why non-domain aspects of service design often determine long-term success
  • Holistic approaches to design, structure, and reliability
  • Practical strategies for evolving services without introducing chaos
  • Early design choices that pay dividends in maintainability and observability
  • Security considerations that should be baked into your architecture from day one

Who Should Attend

Whether you're building your first microservice or managing an entire ecosystem of distributed services, this session offers actionable insights for software engineers at all levels. The two-part format allows for deeper exploration of complex topics, with a break between sessions for networking and reflection.
