XP Practices Are the Missing Piece for AI-Assisted Development

This online meetup from AI Agents Montreal explores how Extreme Programming (XP) practices can improve AI-assisted software development. Speaker Paul Hammond will share how TDD, mutation testing, continuous refactoring, and small increments can structure projects that involve AI coding agents.

  • When & Where: Friday, March 27, 2026 at 12:00 PM (Online event).
  • Organizer: AI Agents Montreal. Organizer page.
  • Speaker: Paul Hammond, contract product engineer based in Manchester, UK with 20+ years building software (TypeScript, TDD, functional programming) and a long-time XP advocate. He maintains an open-source Claude Code framework that encodes XP practices into agent workflows. GitHub - Claude Code.
  • Abstract highlights: AI coding agents are shaping how we write software, and XP practices—TDD, mutation testing, continuous refactoring, and small increments—are shown to work alongside AI agents in real projects. The talk covers what’s worked, what hasn’t, why tests-first matters when you’re not the one writing the code, and how Domain-Driven Design and hexagonal architecture help structure AI-assisted development. A live feature build with Claude Code agents will be demonstrated (with the real-world risks this entails).
  • Why attend: Learn practical XP techniques in the context of AI-enabled development and hear about architectural approaches that can make AI coding workflows more reliable.
