What to expect

TechTalks Edinburgh #7 brings together two cutting-edge presentations on AI agents and cybersecurity threat intelligence at CodeBase Edinburgh. This evening event offers developers, security professionals, and tech enthusiasts a chance to dive deep into how AI agents work and how organisations defend against emerging threats.

What You'll Learn

The evening features two detailed technical talks. Oleksandr Piekhota, Principal Software Engineer at Teaching Strategies and co-organiser of TechTalks Edinburgh, will demystify AI Agents Explained: Skills, Loops, and MCP. This session breaks down what an AI agent actually is, explaining the fundamentals of how agents work through skills and loops, how models interact with tools, and why the Model Context Protocol (MCP) matters for modern AI development. Using OpenClaw as a practical example, Oleksandr will demonstrate how agents use tools, maintain context, and make step-by-step decisions in real-world scenarios.

Cameron Cottam, a Security Operations Analyst with three years of experience across managed security service providers and financial services teams, presents Inside Threat Intelligence: Tracking Global Cyber, Geopolitical & Emerging Threat Actors. This talk offers a practical look at how organisations confront global cyber, geopolitical, and physical threats. You'll learn how security teams track, analyse, and respond to emerging threat actors, from initial detection through to response and continuous improvement in real operational environments.

Event Format

The evening runs from 5:45pm to 8:45pm with a structured agenda designed to maximise learning and networking. Arrive at 5:45pm for welcome drinks, pizza, and initial conversations. The first talk runs from 6:30pm to 7:15pm, followed by a Q&A and chat break. The second presentation takes place from 7:30pm to 8:15pm, with the evening concluding with further Q&A, beverages, and networking opportunities.

Who Should Attend

This event is ideal for software engineers interested in AI agent architectures, security professionals focused on threat intelligence and detection engineering, developers working with AI tools and automation, and anyone curious about practical applications of AI agents or modern cybersecurity practices. The technical depth makes it particularly valuable for those already working in these fields, though the clear explanations ensure accessibility for motivated learners.
