What to expect

Are you a PhD student researching data science or artificial intelligence? This full-day event at the University of Edinburgh brings together doctoral researchers from across the UK to share cutting-edge research, build connections, and explore the future of AI.

What to Expect

This intensive networking day is built around student presentations, giving you the chance to showcase your research and learn from peers working on diverse AI challenges. You'll hear a keynote from Professor Oliver Lemon, Academic Co-lead of the National Robotarium, focusing on interaction with embodied AI — an emerging frontier bringing together robotics, natural language processing, and intelligent agents.

The day also features a panel discussion with leading AI researchers from Scotland exploring AI's evolution, today's pressing challenges, and future directions. Whether you're working on machine learning applications, automation systems, or AI ethics, you'll find relevant perspectives and potential collaborators.

Key Topics:

  • Student research presentations across data science and AI domains
  • Embodied AI and human-robot interaction
  • Real-world AI applications and challenges
  • Skills development for doctoral researchers

Who Should Attend

This event is designed for PhD students connected with data science and artificial intelligence across the UK. It's ideal if you want to expand your professional network beyond your home institution, improve your presentation skills, and gain exposure to the breadth of AI research happening nationally. The format encourages cross-organisational collaboration and helps you connect theoretical research with real-world applications.
