What to expect

Explore responsible AI and the future of creative practice at this in-person chapbook launch in Edinburgh on 10 December 2026.

Edinburgh College of Art presents the launch of Beyond the AI Binary, a new publication examining how AI could shape, and be shaped by, creative work. Developed through workshops with freelancers, students, early-career practitioners, in-house creatives and creative managers, the chapbook considers the challenges of adopting AI, the skills likely to become more important and possible futures for creativity.

What to expect

The two-hour evening combines a roundtable conversation with participatory activities. Attendees can explore the chapbook, exchange experiences and reflect on responsible engagement with AI across creative practice and communities. Refreshments and copies of the publication will be available.

The roundtable features:

  • Dr Caterina Moruzzi (chair), a Design Informatics researcher focused on AI, creativity, authorship and authenticity
  • Dr Pushpi Bagchi, a visual communication designer specialising in co-creation and futures-focused methods
  • Chris Day, an illustrator and animator with more than 25 years of experience
  • Dr Kimia Witte, a cell engineer, artist and curator working across science and art
  • Ji Yoon Lee, an artist exploring digital technology, embodiment and sensory experience

The event welcomes creative practitioners, students, educators, cultural and creative organisations, and anyone interested in AI’s influence on how people make, work and imagine the future. It takes place in person from 7–9pm at Inspace, 1 Crichton Street, Edinburgh EH8 9AB. Venue accessibility information is available online.

The chapbook forms part of the CREA-TEC project, supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and developed in collaboration with Adobe and the Edinburgh Futures Institute.
