What to expect

Training Workshop: AI Agents for Research Workflows — a hands-on Cambridge workshop (16 March 2026, 09:30–17:30) where postgraduate researchers learn how modern agentic systems are built and applied to complex research workflows. AI agents are moving beyond simple chatbots to actionable collaborators that can plan, execute, and iterate on literature mapping, hypothesis generation, data exploration, experiment design, code scaffolding, and report drafting — all while keeping you in control. In this session, you’ll explore the essential components of agentic systems (tools, memory, planning, evaluation, and guardrails) and how to apply them responsibly across disciplines, from humanities to natural sciences. Attendees gain early access to a platform running state‑of‑the‑art multi‑agent systems, supported by the Accelerate Programme for Scientific Discovery, Google, and the Simons Foundation. Through guided exercises you’ll deploy agents on your own research questions, learn patterns that reliably improve output quality, and leave with reusable templates you can apply immediately in your day‑to‑day research. Open to all postgraduate students and research staff. Lunch will be provided with opportunities for networking during breaks. More information and registration are available here.

This in‑person workshop ties directly into Cambridge’s Accelerate Programme for Scientific Discovery, with involvement from major supporters such as Google and the Simons Foundation. The agenda emphasizes hands‑on practice: you’ll observe how modern AI agents coordinate tools, manage memory, plan actions, evaluate results, and implement guardrails to keep experiments on track. Expect guided exercises that let you test agents on your own research questions, extract reusable templates, and discuss responsible use of agentic systems across scientific domains. The session is designed for researchers who want practical, deployable patterns for integrating AI agents into real workflows, not just theory. Networking during breaks and a catered lunch provide further opportunities to exchange ideas with peers and program organizers. Attendees should come prepared with a research question or project in mind to maximize the hands‑on value.
