What to expect

The 2026 FENS-Chen Institute Summer Program on AI-Accelerated Neuroscience Discovery and Translation brings together the cutting edge of artificial intelligence and neuroscience research in Cambridge from July 12–18, 2026. Hosted by the University of Cambridge's BrainHealthX Hub and C2D3 in partnership with FENS (Federation of European Neuroscience Societies), this intensive week-long programme offers participants a unique opportunity to explore the transformative intersection of AI and brain science.

What You'll Learn

This summer school covers four major themes at the forefront of neuroscience research:

  • Cognitive Computational Neuroscience — understanding how the brain processes information through computational models
  • AI in Neuroscience — applying machine learning techniques to decode neural data and accelerate discovery
  • Neurotechnology — exploring brain-computer interfaces and next-generation tools for studying the nervous system
  • Translation for Brain and Mental Health — bridging the gap between AI research and clinical applications

Who Should Apply

This programme welcomes postdocs, PhD students, and MRes students with backgrounds in mathematics, engineering, computer science, or neuroscience. Programming experience (Python, R, or MATLAB) is beneficial, and while familiarity with AI and machine learning is desirable, it's not required — making this an accessible entry point for researchers looking to expand into this interdisciplinary field.

The Cambridge Experience

Beyond the academic programme, participants will engage with both local and international experts alongside industry partners from Cambridge's renowned innovation ecosystem. The schedule includes dedicated time to explore Cambridge's historic colleges, beautiful architecture, and rich cultural heritage — offering a perfect blend of intensive learning and cultural immersion.

Application Details

The programme runs daily from 09:00 to 17:30, providing a comprehensive and immersive learning environment. Places are limited, and the application deadline is midnight on Monday, February 16th, 2026. This is an exceptional opportunity to learn from leading researchers, build international networks, and position yourself at the forefront of AI-accelerated neuroscience discovery.
