About this event

What to expect

This in-person PyData meetup brings together data scientists and developers in Cambridge for an evening focused on cutting-edge approaches to data visualization and knowledge graph integration. Sponsored by the Open Data Science Conference and NumFOCUS, this event showcases two compelling talks that address modern challenges in data representation and AI agent capabilities.

What You'll Learn

The evening features two distinct technical presentations. First, Josh Pollock from MIT introduces GoFish, a new open-source charting library for Python and JavaScript built on a novel theory of graphics. This session demonstrates how to create expressive visualizations—from simple bar charts to complex polar ribbons—using a more composable API than traditional tools like matplotlib and D3. You'll learn to think about charts as structured visual representations, a perspective that can transform how you design graphics.

The second talk by Vlad Korolev explores SPARQL-TOOL, a solution that enables AI agents to connect with and query structured knowledge graphs. This addresses a critical limitation in agent architectures: their dependence on fixed knowledge cutoffs and unreliable web search tools. The presentation covers querying both public graphs like UniProt and DbPedia, as well as private knowledge bases. The open-source repository is available for those who want to implement this technique.

Who Should Attend

This meetup welcomes anyone working with Python for data science, machine learning practitioners, data visualization enthusiasts, and developers building AI agents. Whether you're looking to improve your charting capabilities or extend your agent's access to structured knowledge, these sessions offer practical techniques you can apply immediately.

Event Format & Schedule

The evening begins at 6:30 PM with networking over food provided by ODSC. The formal program runs from 7:00–9:00 PM with two 45-minute presentations separated by a break. The event takes place at Moderna HQ in Cambridge, with RSVP required for attendance. Please note: do not arrive before 6:30 PM.
