About this event

What to expect

Accelerate your understanding of Large Language Models with this intensive hands-on workshop at the University of Cambridge. This full-day practical session combines classroom learning with real-world application, giving you the opportunity to build, tune, and evaluate LLMs on actual datasets.

What You'll Do

This isn't a lecture — it's a coding marathon. You'll spend the majority of the day programming in teams, working on a real dataset of your choice. The workshop provides several dataset options to get you started, or you can bring your own research data. Throughout the day, you'll tackle real-life ML problems with support from Accelerate Science Machine Learning Engineers and experienced researchers who understand the challenges of working with LLMs in practice.

Your team will work through the complete LLM workflow: building models, fine-tuning parameters, and evaluating performance. At the end of the day, you'll present your results to the group, sharing insights and learning from other teams' approaches.

Technical Stack

You'll work with industry-standard open-source libraries including HuggingFace and scikit-learn. This hands-on experience with these tools will give you practical skills you can immediately apply to your own research projects. Make sure to bring your laptop ready for a full day of coding.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for postgraduate students and research staff at Cambridge who are already confident with ML fundamentals and Python programming. This is not an introduction to Python or machine learning — you should be comfortable coding from day one. If you're looking to bridge the gap between theoretical ML knowledge and practical LLM implementation, this workshop is for you.

What's Included

The workshop runs from 09:30 to 17:00, with lunch provided. Networking breaks throughout the day give you the chance to connect with other researchers working on AI and ML projects across different domains.

Register for this workshop and gain hands-on experience with the tools and techniques driving the latest advances in natural language processing.
