What to expect

Build open-source, collaborative AI agents with Flower at a one-day, hands-on hackathon at the University of Cambridge on 26 August 2026.

Taking place from 9:30am to 7:00pm at the Department of Computer Science and Technology in Cambridge, this event gives participants a full day to form a team, develop a working multi-agent prototype and demonstrate it to fellow builders. The central challenge is to create an open-source agent or multi-agent system using Flower, with safe collaboration between agent teams at the heart of the solution.

What you’ll build

Projects can explore collaborative systems of varying complexity. Multiple agents might:

  • Automate a task together
  • Form self-improving loops with one another
  • Work across distributed machines and datasets
  • Coordinate learning and inference in privacy-aware environments

Ideas from any industry or application area are welcome, including scientific research, healthcare, finance, education, public services, software development and new forms of human-agent collaboration. Flower supports distributed coordination, collaborative learning and inference, and privacy-aware deployment, backed by an open-source community of more than 7,000 users worldwide.

How the day works

The programme begins with check-in, breakfast and an opportunity to meet other participants. A technical introduction will then cover collaborative agent architectures, safe coordination, self-improvement loops and the Flower resources available during the hackathon.

Participants will spend most of the day in two focused build sessions, with mentors available to help at lunch and throughout the afternoon. Teams will define their project, design agent interactions, implement and test the system, refine its collaborative behaviour, and prepare a demonstration. From 5:30pm, teams will present their work and answer brief questions before awards and closing remarks.

Teams and eligibility

You can register individually: teams of two to four people will be formed during the morning, with organisers helping participants find collaborators who have complementary interests and experience. Existing teams may also register together, and bringing a developed idea is optional.…
