What to expect

Ready to break into the world of programming and web development? The Cambridge Public Library is running an eight-week hands-on coding workshop series designed for aspiring developers with basic computer literacy. Session Six (May 20, 2026) continues this comprehensive journey through the fundamentals of web development, offering both structured learning and project-based guidance from experienced developers.

What You'll Learn

This workshop series provides a solid foundation in modern web development, covering:

  • Programming fundamentals — core concepts and logic that apply across languages
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — the essential building blocks of web pages and interactive experiences
  • Developer tools — version control with Git and other professional workflows
  • Hands-on projects — real-world applications of what you're learning

Each two-hour session balances instruction with practical work time, allowing you to build projects while receiving personalized guidance from experienced developers. Optional homework materials are provided for those who want to dive deeper between sessions.

Who Should Attend

This workshop series is perfect for would-be programmers who have basic computer literacy but little to no coding experience. Whether you're looking to switch careers, build your own websites, or simply understand how the web works, this course provides a supportive environment to get started. While you can join at any point in the series, attending from the beginning is strongly encouraged for the best learning experience.

Series Structure

The complete eight-session series runs weekly from April 8 to June 3, 2026, at the Main Library's Community Room. Session Six on May 20, 2026, builds on the foundations established in earlier sessions. Each session requires separate registration, which opens two weeks before each date.
