About this event

What to expect

Practice Python programming in a friendly, collaborative environment where developers of all skill levels code together, share knowledge, and improve through hands-on problem-solving. This biweekly Python Code Dojo, hosted by Ray in collaboration with CodeHub Bristol and Women's Tech Hub, brings together beginners and experienced programmers for non-competitive coding sessions.

What to Expect

Each session follows a structured yet relaxed format designed to maximize learning and collaboration. The evening begins with introductions and socializing, followed by a democratic voting process where attendees suggest and choose an exercise from the ideas channel on Discord. Once the topic is selected, participants form small teams of 2-4 people, typically mixing experience levels to ensure each group has at least one more experienced member to guide and support the learning process.

Teams spend the bulk of the session working together to solve the chosen exercise, discussing approaches, debugging code, and exploring different solutions. The collaborative format means you'll learn not just from solving problems, but from seeing how others think through challenges. Sessions conclude with each team presenting their solution—whether complete or in-progress—explaining their creative process and the problems they encountered along the way.

Tools and Access

The dojo uses Replit, an online Python interpreter and IDE, meaning you don't need Python installed locally—just bring a browser and you're ready to code. While a laptop is recommended for the best experience, it's not strictly essential. All coordination happens through the Python Dojo Discord server, where you can access previous sessions, review code from past exercises, and discuss all things Python-related between meetups.

Who Should Attend

This event welcomes everyone from absolute beginners who know just the basics to seasoned Python developers looking to sharpen their skills. The dojo philosophy mirrors traditional martial arts training: both students and masters improve through practice and group reflection. The mixed-experience format creates an ideal learning environment where knowledge flows naturally, questions are encouraged, and everyone contributes something valuable to their team.

Sessions typically start promptly, with the first 20 minutes dedicated to i
