About this event

What to expect

Codebar Brighton invites students and coaches to a welcoming Tuesday evening coding workshop at The Skiff, a collaborative workspace in the heart of Brighton. This session on 19 May 2026 is part of a regular series running through May and June, designed to make tech more diverse and accessible by bringing people together to learn and teach programming skills in a supportive, inclusive environment.

The evening begins at 18:30 with veggie and vegan pizza (dietary requirements welcome), followed by two hours of pair programming from 19:00 to 21:00. Students work one-to-one with experienced coaches on their own projects or courses at their own pace, creating a personalised learning experience that adapts to individual goals and skill levels. Whether you're taking your first steps in coding or diving into a more advanced project, the workshop matches you with a coach who can support your specific needs.

What to Expect

This is a safe space for learning and skill-sharing. Students can bring their own projects, work through tutorials, or explore new programming languages and frameworks. Coaches share their knowledge and experience in a patient, encouraging way — no question is too small, and no challenge is too beginner. The format is intentionally flexible, allowing you to focus on what matters most to your learning journey.

After the coding session wraps at 21:00, there's an optional pub visit for those who want to continue conversations and build connections within Brighton's tech community.

The Venue

The Skiff is located at 30 Cheapside (entrance on Blackman Street) in central Brighton. Please note: the venue is on the first floor, accessed by a long narrow staircase with no lift. Gender-neutral bathrooms are available. If you have accessibility concerns, please reach out to the organisers in advance.

Who Should Attend

Students: Anyone who wants to learn programming, regardless of experience level. Codebar workshops are particularly welcoming to people from underrepresented groups in tech.

Coaches: Developers and technologists who want to give back by sharing their skills. You don't need to be an expert — just a willingness to help others learn.

Community and Support

This workshop is organised by Scout Burghardt (she/her), Nigel Tart (he), and Laurence (Lou) Alldis (he/they), with generous support from sponsors [Plus Accounting](https://www.plusaccounting.c
