About this event

What to expect

Join Brighton's welcoming tech community for a free evening of coding, learning, and collaboration. Codebar Brighton brings together aspiring developers and experienced programmers for 1:1 coaching sessions in a supportive, inclusive environment — no pressure, no judgment, just genuine help at your own pace.

What to Expect

This workshop follows Codebar's proven format: arrive at 18:30 for complimentary pizza (all vegetarian and vegan options available), then dive into focused coding sessions from 19:00 to 21:00. Whether you're working through online tutorials, building your first project, or tackling a specific coding challenge, you'll be paired with an experienced coach who can guide you through the material at a speed that works for you.

The beauty of Codebar's approach is the personalized attention. Rather than following a rigid curriculum, you bring your learning goals — whether that's JavaScript fundamentals, Python basics, web development with HTML/CSS, or any other programming topic — and your coach adapts to help you progress. Students work on their own projects or chosen courses, with coaches providing expertise, debugging help, and encouragement throughout the evening.

Who Should Attend

Students: This workshop is designed for underrepresented groups in tech, including women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people of colour. Whether you're a complete beginner taking your first steps into programming or someone building on existing knowledge, you're welcome. All you need is a laptop and curiosity.

Coaches: If you have programming experience and want to give back to the community, join as a coach. You don't need to be an expert in everything — just willing to share what you know, answer questions, and help someone gain confidence in their coding journey.

The Venue

Hosted at TrustedHousesitters' bright, modern offices at Mocatta House in Brighton's Trafalgar Place, the workshop provides a comfortable space for learning. The company's sponsorship makes these free workshops possible, ensuring the Brighton tech community has regular access to quality coding education.

Community Spirit

Codebar Brighton isn't just about learning syntax and debugging code — it's about building connections. After the official workshop ends at 21:00, there's an optional pub visit where students and coaches can continue conversations, share experiences, and strengthen the community bonds that make Brighton's
