About this event

What to expect

The Brighton Data Intelligence Network brings together data professionals, Python and R developers, and AI enthusiasts for an evening of learning, networking, and hands-on exploration of AI agents and data intelligence. Taking place at Platf9rm Brighton's modern workspace on Floor 5 of Tower Point, this community-driven meetup is perfect for anyone working with data — from curious beginners to seasoned practitioners.

Featured Talk: Building AI Agents from Scratch

Craig West, a freelance Pythonista, will lead an accessible deep-dive into AI agents with his talk "From an AI Agent in HTML to our own Data Intelligence Agent." Rather than treating AI agents as black boxes, Craig breaks down the fundamentals in a way that anyone can understand:

  • Building a basic Coding/Executive Assistant Agent using just HTML and API requests — proving you don't need complex frameworks to get started
  • Understanding core AI agent concepts including Tool Calling, Context Augmentation, and Memory, with practical real-world examples
  • Full data intelligence demonstration on a Kaggle dataset, with all slides and code made available for attendees to experiment with afterwards

Whether you're looking to implement AI agents in your work or simply want to understand how they function under the hood, this session offers both theoretical foundations and hands-on practical knowledge you can take back to the office.

What to Expect

The Brighton Data Intelligence Network is hosted by Datacove, award-winning local experts in R, Python, and Shiny development. These quarterly meetups are designed to be inclusive and welcoming, offering fresh insights, lively discussions, and genuine opportunities to connect with the wider data community. The atmosphere is informal yet professional — perfect for exchanging ideas, discovering new approaches, and building meaningful relationships with peers.

Drinks and nibbles will be served from 6:00 PM, with talks commencing at 6:30-6:45 PM. The formal event concludes at 8:00 PM, but conversations typically continue at a nearby pub for those who want to keep networking.
