What to expect

Build, deliberately break and productionise an LLM gateway in one focused hour, covering the security, reliability, observability and DevOps practices that matter.

On 28 August 2026, from 18:30 to 19:30, The DevOps World Meetup Group will run a hands-on online workshop showing how to turn fragmented LLM integrations into one controlled, observable access point. Listed in Breda, the event takes place online, with the access link made available to attendees.

What you’ll build and explore

The workshop starts with a practical problem: one application connecting to one model provider is manageable, but multiple applications and providers quickly create duplicated authentication, retry logic, timeout handling, failover behaviour and inconsistent logs. Without a shared gateway, teams have no central place to apply policy, understand failures or revoke access for an individual application.

Hosted by Bishwas J. for The DevOps World Meetup Group, the session will build an LLM gateway live, break it intentionally, add controls and examine what is required to operate it as a shared production service. The four main areas are:

  • Security: removing provider credentials from applications so access can be managed centrally.
  • Reliability: distinguishing between retries, cooldowns and fallback, and understanding how poor handling can turn a provider disruption into a wider outage.
  • Observability: tracking request and failure rates, provider latency, time to first token, rate-limit responses, retry counts and fallback counts.
  • DevOps: keeping secrets out of gateway configuration so it can live in Git as a deployable artefact with pull requests, tests and a rollback path.

Follow along or watch

To complete the exercises alongside the host, have Docker and Docker Compose v2 running, plus curl, jq and one provider API key. A second provider is optional, although it makes the failover demonstration clearer. If your environment is not ready, you can still attend as an observer rather than spending the session troubleshooting setup.…
