About this event

What to expect

If you're working at a nonprofit and know exactly which operational headache is holding your team back — whether it's manual reporting that consumes hours every week, communication breakdowns between programs, or data entry processes that nobody wants to touch — this 90-minute problem-solving sprint gives you a focused window to tackle it head-on with AI.

What Makes This Different

This isn't a talk about what AI could theoretically do someday. Birmingham AI's Nonprofit Community is running a hands-on hackathon where you bring one real challenge from inside your organization and leave with a working prototype, a refined approach, or at minimum a concrete plan that didn't exist 90 minutes earlier. The session takes place before the regular Breakout session on May 19th at Innovation Depot Inc in Birmingham.

You'll work through a practical AI framework designed specifically for the resource constraints and operational realities of nonprofit work. The format is deliberately tight — this is about putting down a problem you've been working around and building something better, not theoretical exploration.

What to Expect

The sprint follows a structured approach to identifying where AI can create genuine operational relief. Whether your challenge is reporting workflows, intake processes, cross-team communication, or any other persistent friction point, you'll apply proven frameworks to design and test a solution during the session itself.

Birmingham AI will provide the structure, tool guidance, and support needed to move from problem definition to prototype. You bring the problem, the context, and the willingness to experiment. Snacks included.

Who Should Attend

This hackathon is designed for people working inside nonprofit organizations who have direct experience with operational challenges that eat time and energy. Birmingham AI nonprofit members get priority access, with remaining spots opening to the broader Birmingham AI community as capacity allows.

You don't need to be technical — you need to understand the problem well enough to explain what's broken and why it matters. The session is built for people who want to build, not just discuss possibilities.

Practical Details

The 90-minute format runs from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Innovation Depot Inc in downtown Birmingham. Space is intentionally limited to maintain a hands-on, collaborative environment where each participant gets meaningful suppor
