About this event

What to expect

A practical cybersecurity workshop for SME leaders in Birmingham, with expert guidance, breakfast and local networking.

Taking place on Tuesday 22 September 2026, from 8:00am to 10:00am, this in-person session will help business owners and decision-makers understand the cyber threats facing smaller organisations, and identify practical steps they can take to reduce risk. Doors open at 7:45am at 3 Snow Hill Queensway, Birmingham B4 6GA.

Hosted by BT Local Business Birmingham to Hereford and presented by The Business Growth Network Ltd, the event combines a jargon-free workshop with a cooked breakfast, coffee and relaxed networking. It is designed for people who need clear business-focused advice rather than highly technical theory.

What the workshop covers

Julian Lane of BT Local Business will lead the main workshop, exploring:

  • Common types of cyber attack and how to recognise them in practice
  • The wider cost of an incident, including lost revenue and reputational damage
  • Warning signs to watch for and how to respond effectively
  • Ways BT’s cybersecurity solutions can help protect businesses and educate teams
  • Cyber Essentials accreditation, what it is, why it matters and how to achieve it

An open Q&A gives attendees the opportunity to raise concerns relating to their own organisations. The aim is to leave with clear, actionable takeaways that can be applied immediately to strengthen cyber resilience.

  • 8:15–8:45am: Cooked breakfast and networking
