What to expect

Apply by 31 August 2026 to accelerate chemistry formulation innovation with data, AI and robotics through grants, coaching and industry access.

Turn formulation into a data-driven science

The Big Chemistry Startup Program is an online application programme for young companies replacing slow trial-and-error formulation with integrated experiments, digital workflows and predictive methods. Selected startups can use its funding and specialist support to validate their technology, sharpen their commercial direction and accelerate the development of more scalable, predictable formulation processes.

The programme reflects Big Chemistry’s wider mission to transform formulation from a craft into a data-driven science. Its approach combines high-throughput automated experiments with smart algorithms, helping researchers investigate complex mixtures more quickly and respond to rapidly changing markets and applications.

Who should apply?

The opportunity is designed for startups that are:

  • Less than five years old
  • Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees and under €10 million in turnover or balance-sheet total
  • Combining physical experiments with digital workflows
  • Developing applications involving polymers, emulsions and surfactants; coatings and colloids; flavours and fragrances; adhesives; or electrolytes

It is particularly relevant to chemistry founders, technical teams and research-led ventures using AI, data or robotics to make formulation more intelligent, repeatable and commercially useful.

What selected startups receive

Successful applicants can access:

  • €125,000 to €200,000 in grant funding
  • Content-focused coaching and group training sessions
  • Connections to industry partners, investors and leading research institutions
  • Support with technology validation, market and customer choices, and defining a clear business case

Rather than a single conference or workshop, this is a structured startup support programme combining funding, mentorship, training and ecosystem access. The total grant ceiling is €4 million, and applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis while funding remains available. The listed deadline is 31 August 2026, while the wider programme states that applications can be submitted from May through 2028.…
