About this event

What to expect

Explore responsible AI for media at dpa in Berlin on 29 September 2026, with expert talks and workshops on governance, bias, labelling and deepfakes.

AI for Media Meetup #9 examines how news and media organisations can adopt AI without compromising journalistic values, credibility or safety. Running from 1pm to 6pm in the Atrium at dpa’s headquarters, Rudi-Dutschke-Straße 2, Berlin, the programme combines strategic perspectives, newsroom case studies, rapid project showcases and practical workshops.

Talks and case studies

Following a welcome from AI for Media Network project manager Bernd Oswald and opening remarks by dpa deputy editor-in-chief Astrid Maier, Marie Kilg, host of Der KI-Podcast, will deliver a keynote on responsible AI in media organisations.

The afternoon will then explore how responsible principles translate into operational practice:

  • Yannick Franke, AI Team Lead at dpa, will explain how dpa IQ supplies AI agents with verified news-agency content.
  • Patrick Markowski, Head of AI Operations at BILD, will discuss agentic engineering and clear editorial guardrails.
  • Lisa-Marie Eckardt of TU Dortmund University and Dr Katharina Krause of the University of Tübingen will connect research and practice around AI-content labelling.
  • Katharina Happ of Web.de/Gmx will address fair, inclusive AI use with minimal bias.
  • Jana Heigl of Bayerischer Rundfunk and Christian Böhm of BurdaForward will examine how verification expertise can be embedded sustainably in newsrooms dealing with AI-generated fakes.

A problem pitch from Ruben Granados Hughes will consider the legally compliant use of Planet Schule content in an AI tutor. Three-minute AI Flashlight Talks will also introduce three current AI projects.

Practical workshops and networking

Attendees can choose between two concurrent workshops. One focuses on prompts, projects, skills and practical tools for fair and inclusive AI adoption; the other, led by verification specialists Stefan Voß and Jana Heigl, covers the detection of AI-manipulated content.…
