What to expect

Deep Tech Night brings quantum and photonics startups, investors and researchers together in Berlin on 27 August for pitches, expert discussion and networking.

From applied research to investable companies

As AI models grow and data centres reach the limits of copper-based infrastructure, optical technologies are taking on a critical role. Nvidia has invested more than $6 billion in optical companies since March, while Europe has launched its first dedicated photonics ETF. Against this backdrop, Deep Tech Night: Quantum & Photonics explores how advanced research can become commercially viable startups.

The event runs from 5:00–8:00pm GMT+2 on Thursday 27 August 2026 at Lanolin Fabrik, Salzufer 15/16, in Berlin. It is presented by Silicon Allee and Fraunhofer HHI, with OpTecBB and Leap.

Fraunhofer HHI develops enabling components, including lasers and photonic chips,in-house, covering the process from wafer to packaging. This evening focuses on translating that technical capability into new ventures.

What to expect

The programme combines startup exposure, industry insight and informal conversation:

  • Five photonics and quantum startups pitching to a room of investors, researchers and founders
  • An investor panel asking direct questions about the technologies and commercial opportunities
  • An introduction to the venture lab at Fraunhofer HHI
  • A guest talk, followed by an open floor
  • Drinks before the programme and food afterwards

The full startup and speaker line-up will be announced closer to the event. Founders working in this space can apply for one of the five pitch slots.

Who should attend?

This is designed for founders building in photonics, quantum sensing or optical interconnects; investors scouting early-stage optics and quantum opportunities; researchers considering the move from laboratory work to company creation; and corporate teams monitoring the shift away from copper infrastructure.…
