What to expect

What is the true value engineers bring to software development when AI is writing most of the code? And how do you catch the silent failures of AI systems before they degrade your product? This technical meetup in Amsterdam tackles two of the most pressing questions facing AI-native engineering teams today.

What You'll Learn

The evening features two in-depth technical talks addressing the practical challenges of building with AI:

The Human Side of Coding — Nico Krijnen from Yuma explores how engineers can navigate technical and social complexity in distributed systems with legacy at their core. As AI takes over code generation, what unique value do humans still bring? This talk examines how human collaboration across disciplines, backgrounds, and personalities (including AI) remains essential for understanding problems and building systems that last. You'll learn practical approaches to tackling complexity without simply adding more technology or AI layers.

The Silent Failures of AI: How to Evaluate? — Floris Weers from Biscuit, formerly of Apple's Foundation Model team and a named author on the Apple Intelligence Foundation Language Models tech report, shares a systematic framework for evaluating AI agents in real product settings. Unlike traditional software, AI doesn't crash when it fails — it quietly underperforms. This talk covers how to catch regressions and decide within an hour whether to adopt a newly released model or stick with your current setup. The evaluation framework also empowers engineers to confidently modify system prompts, make deeper harness changes, and update RAG documentation without fear.

Topics span AI agent evaluation, prompt engineering, RAG system optimization, model selection, human-AI collaboration patterns, and AI-native infrastructure in production. Both speakers bring extensive hands-on experience: Nico disrupted the DAM space by building Elvis, a file management solution used by media organizations worldwide, while Floris contributed directly to Apple Intelligence and researched multimodal models, mobile vision transformers, and distillation scaling laws.

Who Should Attend

This meetup is designed for platform engineers, AI/ML engineers, SREs, architects, and engineering leaders actively building and validating AI systems in production. If you're working through agent evaluati
