About this event

What to expect

Children ages 8-12 can dive into the world of robotics and coding at this bilingual summer bootcamp held at Amsterdam Public Library. Over five days (July 6-10, 2026), NewTechKids combines storytelling with hands-on technology invention, teaching kids how to design, build and code robots inspired by popular films and books like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "How to Train Your Dragon", and WALL-E.

What Kids Will Learn

Working in pairs with LEGO robotics kits and art supplies, participants explore foundational computer science and design concepts including:

  • Coding fundamentals: algorithms, commands, loops, sequence, and if-else logic
  • Design thinking: working with resources and requirements, testing prototypes, iteration, and best practices
  • Creative invention: using imagination to bring fictional worlds to life through technology
  • Presentation skills: showcasing robots to peers and parents at the end of each session

Camp Format

This bilingual programme (Dutch and English) runs daily from 10:00-14:00, taught by a native Dutch-speaking professional teacher with specialized computer science training. The curriculum follows NewTechKids' concept-context learning pedagogy using tangible tools that make abstract computing concepts accessible to young learners. Morning snacks and drinks are provided; children bring their own lunches.

The bootcamp welcomes complete beginners as well as children with previous NewTechKids experience. Girls are especially encouraged to participate. Successful completion earns participants a NewTechKids diploma.

Accessibility and Pricing

Thanks to generous corporate donations, NewTechKids offers subsidized spots (€25) for children from low-income families with a Stadspas—just four spots are available at this reduced rate. Standard registration is €296.92 (VAT and Eventbrite fees included).

The programme requires a minimum of 16 students; registrants will be notified three days prior if cancellation is necessary, with full refunds provided. The venue is conveniently located just a five-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station in the Junior Lab (basement level) of the Amsterdam Public Library.

NewTechKids has been delivering these popular computer science bootcamps for 11 years, welcoming both Amsterdam residents and visitors from around the world. [Register for this event](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/week-1-newtec
