What to expect

Learn how to build practical AI governance in this 90-minute online session on 17 September 2026, led by GIofAI founder Sandeep Bhalekar.

As artificial intelligence moves from isolated experiments into business processes, products and organisational decision-making, policies alone are no longer enough. This live working session explains how to establish clear ownership, operational controls and meaningful accountability, without creating governance processes that unnecessarily slow innovation.

Hosted by the Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence – Melbourne community, the event begins at 6:00 PM on Thursday 17 September 2026 and is delivered online. The attendee link will be made available through Meetup.

What the session covers

Sandeep Bhalekar, Founder of the Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence, will break down the foundations organisations need as AI adoption expands. Topics include:

  • What AI governance really means, including how it differs from traditional technology governance and Responsible AI
  • The essential components of a practical governance framework, from policies and oversight to operational controls
  • How to assign roles, decision-making authority and accountability across an organisation
  • Identifying, assessing and managing risk throughout the AI lifecycle
  • Turning principles such as transparency, fairness, privacy, safety and human oversight into day-to-day organisational practices
  • How ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework can support a wider governance approach

The format combines practical examples with an actionable discussion about building AI governance inside real organisations. An open Q&A follows, giving attendees the opportunity to raise specific questions and explore challenges from their own work. This is intended as a practical session rather than a purely high-level conversation, so participants are encouraged to bring real-world scenarios.

Who should attend?

The session is designed for C-suite and executive leaders, CIOs, CTOs and CDOs, as well as AI leaders, technology and transformation teams, risk and compliance professionals, consultants and hands-on AI practitioners. It is relevant whether your organisation is still experimenting with AI or already deploying systems at enterprise scale.…
