A peaceful demonstration at the US Capitol urging Congress to regulate superintelligent AI. PauseAI Capitol Day of Action brings together volunteers from across America to demand federal action on unsafe AI development before it's too late.
Why This Matters
Artificial intelligence development has reached a critical juncture. A small number of companies are racing to build superintelligent AI systems — technology vastly more powerful than human intelligence — with minimal oversight or safety protocols. Leading AI scientists and industry whistleblowers are sounding the alarm: without proper regulation, these systems could escape human control and pose existential risks to civilization.
The Event
This permitted demonstration takes place on the West Front Lawn of the US Capitol in Washington on April 13, 2026, from 4:00-6:00 PM ET. Organized by PauseAI DC, the rally coincides with volunteer meetings between constituents and their congressional representatives throughout the day.
The demonstration will be peaceful, lawful, and respectful — fully permitted by the US Capitol Police. Participants will call on Congress to enact regulations banning unsafe superhuman AI development, following historical precedents where nations successfully collaborated on nuclear disarmament, chemical and biological weapons restrictions, human cloning prohibitions, and ozone layer protection.
Who Should Attend
This event welcomes anyone concerned about AI safety and governance:
Citizens who want Congress to hear their voice on AI regulation
Technologists and researchers worried about unchecked AI development
Community members concerned about existential risks
Activists working on technology policy and safety
Anyone who believes humanity should control its technological future
What to Expect
You'll join fellow advocates from across the United States in a collective call for congressional action. The demonstration provides a visible, public platform to support volunteers meeting with their representatives inside the Capitol. This is your opportunity to participate in shaping AI policy at the federal level.
