About this event

What to expect

Join a fast-paced 2-hour micro-hackathon where students will vibe code sustainability-focused applications using AWS cloud infrastructure. Hosted by the AWS Cloud Club at George Washington University, this hands-on event brings together aspiring cloud developers to build meaningful solutions addressing environmental challenges.

Event Format

This micro-hackathon follows a collaborative team-based format. Participants are encouraged to bring 2-3 friends to form teams, though solo attendees can join others on-site. You'll have two focused hours to conceptualize, design, and build a working prototype that addresses sustainability challenges using AWS services in some capacity. Whether you're exploring serverless computing, data analytics, machine learning, or other cloud tools, this event provides a creative sandbox to experiment with AWS technologies.

What to Expect

Vibe Coding Approach: This isn't a traditional corporate hackathon. The emphasis is on creative exploration, rapid prototyping, and building something meaningful without getting bogged down in perfect code. Bring your ideas about sustainability — from carbon tracking apps to renewable energy dashboards to waste reduction tools — and use AWS to bring them to life.

Networking Opportunity: Meet like-minded students passionate about cloud computing, sustainability, and technology for social good. The intimate 2-hour format creates natural opportunities for collaboration and connection within the Washington tech community.

Prizes & Perks: Winning teams will receive AWS merchandise and $50 Amazon gift cards for each team member. All participants enjoy free food throughout the event, making this both an intellectually stimulating and socially enjoyable evening.

Who Should Attend

This event welcomes students at all skill levels interested in cloud computing and sustainability. Whether you're just getting started with AWS or already building cloud-native applications, the micro-hackathon format accommodates various experience levels. Prior AWS experience is helpful but not required — bring curiosity, creativity, and a passion for solving environmental challenges through technology.

The event takes place at Duques Hall Room 150 on the George Washington University campus, providing easy access for students across the DC area.
