What to expect

Want to launch your tech blog but don't know where to start? This hands-on virtual workshop, part of codebar Festival 2026, will take you from blank page to published post in 90 minutes. Led by Hugh Evans, you'll learn the complete blogging workflow — from ideation to publication — while gaining practical experience with Markdown formatting and Jekyll, the static site generator that powers countless developer blogs.

What You'll Learn

This workshop covers three essential pillars of technical blogging. First, you'll explore why blogging matters for your career and the developer community — from building your personal brand to contributing to open-source knowledge. Next, you'll tackle the perennial challenge of finding topics to write about, with proven techniques for identifying subjects that resonate with readers. Finally, you'll dive into the writing and publishing process, learning tips for structuring posts, maintaining momentum, and getting your work in front of readers.

The second half is entirely hands-on. You'll create a real blog post using Markdown and Jekyll, then raise a pull request to contribute your work to a shared repository — giving you genuine open-source contribution experience. By the end, you'll walk away with a complete blog post outline ready for submission to the codebar blog.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is perfect for developers, tech professionals, and aspiring writers who want to start sharing their knowledge but feel stuck on the technical or creative aspects. No prior blogging experience required — just bring your ideas and enthusiasm. Whether you're interested in documenting your learning journey, sharing technical tutorials, or building your professional presence, this session will give you the confidence and tools to publish your first post.

Workshop Details

The virtual session runs from 12:00-13:30 GMT on 17 March 2026 via Zoom. You'll receive the Zoom link on the morning of the event. The workshop will be recorded and uploaded to codebar's YouTube channel for future reference, so you can revisit the content anytime.
