What to expect

Learn to automate your software deployments with GitHub Actions in this beginner-friendly virtual workshop, part of the 2026 codebar Festival. Led by Emma Jourzac, this hands-on session demystifies CI/CD pipelines and gives you practical experience building automation workflows from scratch.

What You'll Learn

This workshop introduces the fundamentals of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) by exploring:

  • What CI/CD pipelines are and why they matter for modern software development
  • The key differences between continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment
  • Popular tools and platforms used to automate software updates and testing
  • How to create your first automated workflow using GitHub Actions

You'll get hands-on experience by creating a GitHub repository, setting up a workflow configuration with YAML files, and pushing changes to watch your pipeline execute in real time. By the end of the session, you'll have a working understanding of how to automate routine development tasks and deployment processes.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for beginners — no prior experience with CI/CD or automation is required. Whether you're just starting your coding journey or looking to expand your development toolkit beyond manual processes, this session will give you practical skills you can apply immediately to your projects.

Format and Access

The workshop runs virtually via Zoom on 17 March 2026 from 18:00-20:00 GMT. You'll receive the Zoom link on the morning of the event. The session will be recorded and uploaded to codebar's YouTube channel for future reference.

This workshop is part of the codebar Festival 2026, a multi-day celebration of learning and community running from 16-19 March. codebar is dedicated to making tech more diverse and welcoming by bringing people together and helping teach programming skills to underrepresented groups.

The event is supported by sponsors including B2C2, T. Rowe Price UK, and Skyscanner, making these free learning opportunities possible for the community.
