About this event

What to expect

Gain practical insight into New York’s venture capital market and meet investors, founders and fellow entrepreneurs at this focused panel and networking evening.

Taking place from 6:00–8:00 PM on 30 September 2026 at the Alumni Ventures Office in New York, the event brings together members of the city’s investment and startup communities to exchange industry knowledge, explore investment best practices and build valuable connections.

Co-hosted by Alumni Ventures, Columbia Founders Community (Alumni) and Columbia Entrepreneurs Organization (MBA), with sponsorship from J.P. Morgan, the evening is particularly relevant to entrepreneurs, venture investors, Columbia Business School alumni and students, and anyone seeking a closer understanding of how VCs identify promising companies.

Panel and event format

The published programme combines a concise panel conversation with a full hour of open networking:

  • 6:00–6:15 PM: Registration and welcome reception
  • 6:15–7:00 PM: VC panel discussion
  • 7:00–8:00 PM: Open networking

The panel features Columbia Business School alumni working across New York’s investment landscape. Speakers will share their investment theses and explain how they discover potential success within the startup ecosystem:

Andrew Padilla, Partner at Alumni Ventures, will moderate the discussion.

What makes this event useful

Rather than ending after the panel, the programme creates dedicated space to continue conversations directly with people working in venture capital and entrepreneurship. Attendees can compare perspectives on sourcing and evaluating startups, hear how different funds frame their investment strategies, and expand their networks across the Columbia and wider NYC founder communities.…
