About this event

What to expect

Celebrate International Girls in ICT Day with a hands-on coding workshop designed specifically for women and girls exploring their journey in technology. Hosted by NorthWest Women in STEM in Manchester, this free two-hour session provides a welcoming space to build coding skills and connect with like-minded individuals breaking barriers in tech.

This beginner-friendly workshop is perfect whether you're taking your first steps in programming, curious about what coding involves, or looking to build confidence in your technical abilities. The session focuses on practical, hands-on learning in a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and everyone learns at their own pace. You'll need to bring your own laptop to participate in the coding exercises.

The workshop takes place at Generator's office space in Manchester's iconic Town Hall Extension on St Peter's Square, a central location easily accessible by public transport. The session runs from 12:00 to 2:00pm, with free lunch and refreshments provided so you can focus on learning and networking without worrying about logistics.

International Girls in ICT Day, celebrated globally on the fourth Thursday of April, aims to encourage girls and young women to consider careers in information and communication technology. This workshop embodies that mission by providing practical skills development in a female-focused environment. Research consistently shows that women remain underrepresented in technology fields, making initiatives like this crucial for creating pathways and building confidence for the next generation of tech professionals.

Whether you're a student exploring career options, a professional looking to pivot into tech, or simply curious about learning to code, this workshop offers a judgment-free zone to experiment and learn. The small group format ensures personalized attention and the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.

Spaces are limited to maintain the intimate, supportive atmosphere that makes these workshops so effective. The event has proven popular with NorthWest Women in STEM's community, which has hosted 26 events over two years and welcomed over 680 attendees to their various initiatives.
