About this event

What to expect

Connect with Edinburgh's cloud native and Kubernetes community at this technical meetup featuring two in-depth talks on platform engineering and multi-tenant security. Whether you're a platform engineer, DevOps practitioner, or cloud architect, this event offers practical insights into building developer platforms and hardening container runtime security.

What to Expect

The April 2026 meetup kicks off at 6pm with pizza, drinks, and networking at CodeBase Edinburgh, giving you the chance to connect with fellow cloud native enthusiasts before diving into the technical content. The evening features two compelling talks that address real-world challenges in modern platform engineering and container security.

Featured Talks

Platform as a Superpower by Bryan Ross (GitLab) explores why many internal developer platforms fail to gain adoption despite significant investment. This talk examines the common pitfalls when building an IDP and demonstrates how treating your platform as a product can transform it into something developers actually want to use. If you've struggled with platform adoption or are planning to build an IDP, this session provides actionable strategies for success.

Beyond Containers: Why MicroVMs Are Essential for Multi-Tenant Workloads by Lewis Denham-Parry (Edera) tackles a critical security concern many organisations overlook. While containers are ubiquitous, shared kernel architectures present significant isolation risks in multi-tenant environments. This talk builds understanding of why namespaces and cgroups have inherent limitations, how MicroVM architecture provides isolated kernels, and demonstrates open-source tools available today. The session includes a live demonstration using a multi-tenant Kubernetes cluster, showing how attacks can break container isolation and how MicroVMs mitigate these risks.

Who Should Attend

This meetup welcomes cloud native and Kubernetes enthusiasts of all skill levels. Whether you're just starting your Kubernetes journey or you're a seasoned platform engineer, you'll find value in these technical deep-dives and the opportunity to connect with Edinburgh's growing cloud native community.
