About this event

What to expect

AdaHack 2026 is a 12-hour student hackathon in Edinburgh, challenging teams to build an app, website, program or tool and compete for prizes.

Hosted by Edinburgh Hoppers at the University of Edinburgh’s Informatics Forum G.07, AdaHack takes place on Saturday 3 October 2026. It is designed as an approachable first hackathon as well as a fast-paced creative challenge for more experienced builders.

What to expect

Teams of up to four will choose from challenges set by AdaHack’s sponsors and sister society CompSoc. Over 12 hours, participants will develop and submit a working project, whether that is an app, website, program or other digital tool. You can focus on one challenge track or try to address several, with prizes available for each challenge and additional opportunities to win through mini-games.

You do not need to arrive with a team. Organisers will form teams on site before the opening presentation, although pre-arranged teams are equally welcome. Experienced mentors will be present throughout the hackathon to help participants work through technical problems and learn new skills.

AdaHack is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from universities across the UK, including students from outside informatics and people with limited programming experience. The judging rewards impressive ideas and projects rather than technical complexity alone, making this a practical place to experiment, collaborate and complete a build in a supportive environment. Bring yourself and a laptop.
