What to expect

PyLadies Dublin returns to Liberty IT on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, for an evening of inspiring talks that challenge conventional career paths and redefine what it means to be a software engineer in 2026. This Dublin meetup brings together Python enthusiasts, career changers, and software professionals for an honest conversation about learning, growth, and the evolving nature of technical work.

Featured Talks

Learning in Public, Again by Sarah Novotny explores a remarkable career pivot — spending two decades building software communities for Kubernetes, NGINX, and MySQL before enrolling in a master's programme in political science at Trinity College Dublin. Sarah shares her journey of learning Python from scratch to run topic models on 1,600 EU consultation responses, analyzing how open source communities function as political systems and what "technological sovereignty" means across EU regulation, national security, and corporate contexts. This talk speaks to anyone who's ever needed different tools to answer questions their current expertise couldn't address, demonstrating that the willingness to be a beginner is a compounding skill, whether you're 25 and pivoting or 45 and reinventing.

I'm a Software Engineer and I (Barely) Code by Frances Veit offers a refreshingly honest perspective on modern software engineering. After coding her way through a master's in Software Development and landing her first role, Frances discovered she barely writes code — spending most of her time in Machine Learning Operations working with configuration files and infrastructure-as-code. She raises compelling questions about what defines a software engineer in an era of increased abstraction and AI assistance, and what this means for traditional coding assessments and career progression.

What to Expect

The evening runs from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM IST at Liberty IT's 6th floor offices in One LePole Square, Dublin 8. After welcome and introductions, you'll hear both talks followed by networking time to connect with fellow attendees. The event concludes with a raffle for a physical copy of Python Illustrated: Not another boring Python book, learn programming the fun way by Maaike van Putten and Imke van Putten, sponsored by Packt.

PyLadies Dublin events welcome everyone at all levels — while the community centers women in tech, all genders are encouraged to attend. Non-female attendees are enc
