About this event

What to expect

Master Named Entity Recognition (NER) with this hands-on tutorial that guides you through fine-tuning a Hugging Face pretrained model using PyTorch. This practical session is designed for anyone interested in natural language processing and deep learning, offering a clear, step-by-step approach to building an NER system that can identify and classify entities in text.

What You'll Learn

This tutorial follows the proven Hugging Face methodology, covering the complete NER pipeline from data preparation to model deployment. You'll work with a real NER dataset from the Hugging Face library and learn essential techniques including tokenization, data preprocessing, model fine-tuning, performance evaluation, and inference on unseen text samples. The session emphasizes practical implementation over mathematical theory, making it accessible to learners who want to build working AI systems.

You'll receive a comprehensive Jupyter notebook containing clean, production-ready code that covers every stage of the process. The code is designed to be reusable, allowing you to adapt it for your own NER projects after the tutorial. All you need is a laptop and a Google account to run everything in Google Colab—no complex local setup required.

Who Should Attend

This tutorial suits developers, data scientists, and AI enthusiasts with basic Python knowledge who want to expand their NLP capabilities. The focus is on hands-on implementation rather than theoretical mathematics, though some algorithmic explanations and data preprocessing concepts will be covered as needed. Whether you're building chatbots, content analysis tools, or information extraction systems, this session will give you practical skills you can apply immediately.

Session Details

The tutorial takes place at The Grafton Hotel on Stephen Street Lower in Dublin, running from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The group will meet in the hotel lobby, in the corner or on the right-hand side. Led by Aurelie, who is completing an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Limerick, this is part of a monthly series of machine learning and deep learning tutorials.

Important: Sessions are limited to 15 participants to ensure personalized attention and effective learning. Payment is required in advance to secure your spot, and places book up quickly. You can reserve through Meetup or by emailing aureliem219@gmail.com. Note that fees
