What to expect

Preparing for the Leaving Cert Computer Science exam can feel overwhelming—but with the right guidance, you can transform uncertainty into confidence. This intensive five-day crash course runs from July 6–10, 2026 (9:30am–12:30pm daily) and is designed specifically for students sitting the Leaving Cert in 2027 or 2028. Whether you're entering 5th year and exploring LCCS for the first time, or heading into 6th year and need a comprehensive review, this online programme delivers everything you need to succeed.

Who Should Attend?

5th Year Students: If you're unsure whether Computer Science is right for you, this course offers a thorough introduction to the LCCS syllabus. By the end of the week, you'll know exactly what to expect—and if you've already committed to LCCS, you'll gain a significant head start by covering foundational topics before the school year begins.

6th Year Students: Treat this as an essential revision bootcamp. You'll reinforce your 5th-year knowledge, clarify any lingering questions, and even preview 6th-year content that's often rushed in the final school term—giving you a critical advantage heading into exam season.

What You'll Learn

This crash course covers the core pillars of the Leaving Cert Computer Science curriculum:

  • Python Programming: From fundamentals (variables, loops, functions) to advanced topics including recursive functions
  • Algorithms & Complexity: Sorting algorithms, Big O notation, and algorithmic efficiency
  • Data Structures & Databases: Understanding how data is organized, stored, and queried
  • Number Systems: Binary and hexadecimal arithmetic, conversions, and real-world applications
  • Digital Logic: Logic gates, boolean algebra, and circuit design principles
  • Computer Systems: How hardware and software interact to process information
  • Computers and Society: Ethical, legal, and social implications of technology
  • Software Design Process: Best practices for developing reliable, maintainable code
  • Exam Techniques: Proven strategies for tackling LCCS exam questions effectively

All sessions are delivered via Zoom by The Academy of Code's senior tutors—experienced Leaving Cert teachers who understand the curriculum inside and out. You'll need a PC/Mac with microphone and webcam (integrated webcam is perfectly fine).
